Why Bringing Your Pet’s Own Food Is So Important During Boarding

When your pet comes to stay with us, we want them to feel as comfortable and stress-free as possible. One of the best ways to achieve this is by making sure they continue eating the same food they’re used to at home.
While we do supply a few popular brands of food, we can only stock a limited range. Every pet has their own preferences and dietary needs, which is why we ask owners to bring enough of their pet’s usual food for the whole stay.
Why Your Pet Needs Their Own Food
- Avoids tummy upsets – Sudden changes in diet can cause stomach issues such as diarrhoea or loss of appetite.
- Reduces stress – Pets often feel more settled when they have familiar food during boarding.
- Encourages eating – Some cats and small animals may refuse unfamiliar food altogether, which could make their stay difficult.
- Supports health needs – Pets on special diets, prescription foods, or sensitive stomach blends must continue their exact diet.
How Much Food Should You Bring?
We recommend bringing:
- Enough food for the full duration of their stay, plus a little extra just in case.
- Clear feeding instructions (how much, how often, and any treats they are allowed).
- Their usual treats or hay (for rabbits and guinea pigs), as these also help keep them happy and comfortable.
What If You Forget?
Don’t worry — we do keep a small stock of popular cat and small animal foods. However, as we cannot stock every brand, we cannot guarantee we’ll have the exact one your pet prefers. That’s why it’s always best to bring their own.
Helping Your Pet Feel at Home
Sticking to their regular diet is one of the easiest ways to make sure your pet feels secure and well cared for while boarding. Along with their food, you’re also welcome to bring familiar items such as toys, bedding, or blankets — all of which help them settle in.
